How do you think you got very good at your job?
When you want to learn something quickly or to get proficient at something fast, you simply practice doing that thing over and over again.

For example, if you want to improve your sales presentation skills, do more presentations. Similarly, if you want to become more competent on cold sales, pick up the phone and do more cold sales calls.
Through repetition you become more confident and courageous, more knowledgeable and skilful. Nothing even comes close to the power and benefit of repetition.
How do you think you got very good at your job? How did you learn the route from home to the office? How did you get good at making presentations or meeting people, or anything? It’s through the power of repetition.
When you practice anything every day, you get so skilled at it, it becomes automatic. If you drive a car, you don’t consciously change gear, do you? You simply reach out with your hand and change gears. You don’t think about it. You just go ahead and do it.
Automatically.
Remember this when you begin to feel irritated or discouraged at your lack of ability when trying to do something new. I woke up to this when I was learning Spanish. I got stuck on one particular word that I just could not for the life of me remember.
I was actually going to give up on that word when my son, jokingly or mockingly, not sure which, said, “Dad, repetition is the mother of skill.”
Yes, it is. My son woke up in me the memory that practice, or repetition, is a big contributor to success in anything we do. Yet, we either unconsciously take this process for granted, or we forget that we ever had it, as in my case with learning that word.
Rather than giving up, practice the repetition method and achieve more. Substitute helplessness with the desire to practice repetition.

Instead of ‘changing the TV channel’ because we can’t bear to watch the harshness of life around us, we can take combined action to transform lives.
We cannot change the circumstances that brought people to where they are, but we can change their thinking, from within, to improve the quality of their present and future lives.
